BMI Calculator
Calculate Body Mass Index with WHO classification. Supports metric and imperial units.
How BMI Calculator Works
Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by the square of height in meters. For imperial units, the formula is (weight in pounds × 703) / (height in inches²). The WHO classification system categorizes BMI into Underweight (<18.5), Normal (18.5–24.9), Overweight (25–29.9), and Obese (≥30).
While BMI is a widely-used screening tool, it has limitations. It does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass, does not account for body fat distribution, and may not be accurate for athletes, elderly individuals, or certain ethnic groups. For a more complete picture, consider combining BMI with waist circumference and body fat percentage measurements.
